چکیده

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) was flown in February 2000 and collected the first ever high-resolution near-global digital elevation data. The final SRTM data have become widely available at 1 arc-second resolution for the United States and 3 arc-second resolution for other areas. This article reviews the background of the SRTM mission, the data quality characteristics of the SRTM elevation data, and the many applications of SRTM elevation data that have emerged in recent years, including forest ecology, volcanology, glaciology, geomorphology, and hydrology. SRTM data have been particularly useful for areas where previously limited topographic data were available, but results from STRM data also compare reasonably well with those obtained from other highresolution digital elevation models.

Accuracy and resolution of shuttle radar topography mission data

[1] We assess the accuracy and resolution of topography data provided by the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) through spectral comparisons with the National Elevation Dataset (NED) and a high-resolution laser data set of the 1999 Hector Mine earthquake rupture. We find that SRTM and the NED are coherent for wavelengths greater than 200 m, however the spatial resolution of the NED data is...

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission

[1] The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission produced the most complete, highest-resolution digital elevation model of the Earth. The project was a joint endeavor of NASA, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and the German and Italian Space Agencies and flew in February 2000. It used dual radar antennas to acquire interferometric radar data, processed to digital topographic data at 1 arc s...

Water slope and discharge in the Amazon River estimated using the shuttle radar topography mission digital elevation model

[1] We find that the standard deviation, hence error, of the water surface elevation data from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) is 5.51 m for basin-wide, regional and local Amazon mainstem reaches. This error implies a minimum reach length of 733km in order to calculate a reliable water-surface slope. Resulting slopes are 1.92 ± 0.19 cm/km for Manacapuru, 2.86 ± 0.24 cm/km for Itapeu...

Shuttle Radar Topography Mission: DLR’s Interferometric SAR Processor for the Generation of a Global Digital Elevation Model

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) will be launched in January 2000. Its intention is the global topographic mapping of the Earth’ surface. The data will be acquired by the first space-born single-pass synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometer. Within eleven days this mission will map all continents between 60latitude. The resulting data set is unique in two respects. Firstly, the ...

Alpine Digital Elevation Models from Radar Interferometry - a Generic Approach to Exploit Multiple Imaging Geometries

The generation of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) from Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) has developed rapidly in the last 10 years. This new method proofed to be operational with the global success of the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission in the year 2000 and with several companies offering regional topographic mapping campaigns based on airborne InSAR today. However, the current ...
